At first glance, it looks like I have cornrowns, but they are flattwists and they look nice. I'll have to figure out how to get some pics up on here. I lost a fair amount of hair in the process because I had to comb through it. I really didn't know any other way to do my hair. I braided it to stretch it out , but because I used Cantu Shea butter leave-in, which made my hair feel somewhat coated, my hair was harder to get through than normal. At any rate, it was worth it to actually have a style. I was getting SO tired of my fro. I mean, I DO love it, but a fro EVERY day is NOT the move for me. Plus, as my hair gets longer, it ties itself in knots and becomes VERY difficult to manage. I personally feel like my hair is difficult to manage as it is, so I need to try to find products that will soften it and help me to stretch it out. It's very difficult to get through the kinks if I do not stretch it out. Also, the only comb that works well on my hair is the Ace wide-toothes comb which is very difficult to get out in town so I have to order it from Amazon.com. I have held TIGHTLY to my comb for years after giving away the others. The last time that I bought them I bought FIVE of them but THIS time I bought THREE of them. To me, this comb is essential for detangling and managing my hair.gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-8796999362627305172010-03-19T21:24:00.000-07:002010-03-19T21:30:51.716-07:00AN UPDATE!!Hey y'all!
I haven't been here in a while, so I wanted to let you guys know what was going on with my hair. I have been wearing it stretched and it tends to want to knot up when I try to section it off. I still love my hair, though. I bought some Carol's Daughter Smoothie, shampoo and hair balm. I choose the Black Vanilla line and it seems to be good for my hair but I'm not gonna lie and act like my hair has been transformed by this stuff. I DO love the balm, my hair feels so soft with the shampoo, conditioner, and balm. Really, my hair is naturally soft unless I use something TERRIBLE in it. It's still fragile, but I am dealing with that. I thought that I ordered some kind of protein thingy from Sizta to Sizta, but maybe my order didn't go through because I didn't get the stuff and she's really good about getting the stuff to me. Nothing much is going on with my hair other than that.gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-8580414821958266282010-02-08T18:49:00.000-08:002010-02-08T18:56:30.467-08:00Not necessary? No, NOT necessary!!!!Conditioner, that is. I have a sack full of Aubrey's that I need to take back to the store. I'm not using it any more. My hair seems to get MORE knots when I use conditioner than when I don't. So, needless to say, I have STOPPED using it. My hair is doing a lot better now. I've tried to figure out over the years what the benefit of using conditioner is AFTER the hair dries. I'm only talking about MY hair here. Some people SWEAR by conditioner and it obviously does SOMETHING for them, so THEY should use it. However, I DON'T need it, so I'm not going to spend any more money on the stuff. My hair feels and looks great!gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-18713672619250314232010-02-08T18:20:00.000-08:002010-02-08T18:49:02.436-08:00Fragile Hair Update!Hello all!! I have a few updates since my last post. I STILL wear my hair shrunken and I really don't see that changing. However, one thing I DO know is that it must be handled wet. for now, my routine has been daily spritzing with water after which I apply Oyin whipped pudding. Now, however, I think that I need to saturate my hair and then apply the whipped pudding because I have fewer knots that way. I am STILL working on the whole "stretching" thing. I used to constantly "stretch" my hair out by pulling it, mostly for the benefit of onlookers. It was as if I was saying to the world "Look, I have hair, TOO!" It was as if my self-worth was directly tied up in the length of my hair! I find that a little bit sad! Now, I am working to reverse YEARS of having that programmed into me by my stepmommy. I know she meant well, but the years of her trying to figure out how to get both mine and my daughter's hair "to grow" have taken their toll on me both emotionally and physically over the years. The family would get together, oohing and ahhing over the long hair of the women in her family. Mine was always pitiful, broken off, and thin. Years of chemical treatments didn't help. Fast forward to NOW, when I'm 35 years of age and my hair is thick and full, yet SHORT and I am happy! Yes, I still long for a bigger fo at times, but back when I used to try to twist/braid my hair to make it bigger, I used to FIGHT knots! I did this mostly because I felt validated by having "bigger" hair. I certainly got a LOT more compliments that way. I even got a compliment from my stepmommy, which was something that I felt was lacking over the years. So, needless to say, a little self-examination has definitely been in order. It is just not HEALTHY to be validated by others. One HAS to have SELF-LOVE. NOT the arrogant, conceited kind of love that makes you feel that no one else HAS TO like what YOU like about YOU.

My hair is very healthy and I am approaching my goal of a 2 inch shrunken fro. After that, I'm not sure I want to grow it out any longer unless I can compact it in some way to fit under my uniform cover. We shall see!gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-20138302260200540502010-01-19T17:37:00.000-08:002010-01-19T17:40:17.662-08:00Nappy lessons....I did my hair in a a very cute style today. I flat twisted it in the front and left the back in a shrunken fro. I used water the whole times as opposed to trying to do it while dry. It looks fab. It was SO MUCH EASIER to manage. So...grab your water bottles and get to work. Water is a fragile haired girls BEST FRIEND! I keep a bottle handy so that I can manage both mine AND my daughter's hair.gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-38685038631192319622010-01-18T13:37:00.000-08:002010-01-18T13:40:12.249-08:00BAD HABIT!!I LOVE the feel of my hair and sometimes I just pull on it to stretch it out, which results in lots of knots and tangles that I have to cut off. Therefore, I am going to stop doing that and only handle my hair when it is damp. I have been using Oyin whipped pudding as my daily moisturizer and it is fabulous! Right now I'm sitting here with my hair mushed down from sleeping and
I realy need to get up and DO something with my hair, LOL! My "doing something" is simply spraying water on my hair and finger styling. I will add some hair bands. Hopefully, I can a get a few pics up this time!gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-29938351083447980242010-01-03T21:10:00.000-08:002010-01-03T21:23:12.309-08:00LOVING MY HAIR...One day at a time!Okay, so I mentioned in an earlier post that one of my goals was total hair acceptance. I have spent MANY hours poring over the fotkis of people who have long hair, whether fine , thick, or otherwise. I have ALWAYS wanted LONG hair. I am 35 years old and I've NEVER had it. It's quite possible that I never will. However, barring any unforeseen circumstances, I CAN have healthy, filled-in hair. THAT will be my goal. I want the top layers to fill in and meet the bottom layers so that I don't have as many gaps. I'll keep y'all posted!gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-41763097334564185752010-01-03T21:05:00.000-08:002010-01-03T21:10:26.006-08:00PRODUCT REVIEW-Aubrey Organics Rosa MosquetaWell, I've said it before, but the Rosa Mosqueta conditioner by Aubrey Organics is AMAZING! I am not in love with the smell, but this product instantly detangles my hair AND leaves it very soft. I also used the companion shampoo. Now, Aubrey shampoos seem a little stripping to me, but the conditioner counteracts that. I try not to manipulate my hair much during the shampooing process and once I add the conditioner, VOILA!!! I used the shampoo on my daughter's hair as well. Now, mind you, her scalp NEVER responds well to all-natural shampoos, but this one worked. I had to lather several times (which is normal) but it didn't strip her hair the way that Suave Daily Clarifying does. PLUS I felt good knowing that I was using a non-SLS shampoo in her hair. I figured that I would LOVE to take the same great care of her hair and scalp as I do mine. Until Aubrey's I was unable to successfully use natural shampoos on her hair. Great stuff!gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-80459180092099207852010-01-03T20:45:00.000-08:002010-01-03T21:04:21.483-08:00Ok, so no more GEL!!I DO plan to get some Oyin Shine and Define for more hold on the ends, though. I'm also going to get some brown sugar hair pomade for hair and scalp. I'm tempted o try her after bath blended oil as well if it comes in a yummy fragrance. I got the honey wash and it smells SCRUMPTIOUS. I haven't tried it on my hair yet, but I probably will before the week is out.

The REASON that I say not to gel is that when I was taking down my braids, my hair was catching an knotting because of the residue and stickiness of the gel. For FRAGILE hair, that can be a disaster!

My journey from here on out will be MUCH more peaceful. I RESOLVE to love my hair, NOT to complain about it, to be GENTLE and to WORK WITH my hair.gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-6531820095052907642010-01-01T21:13:00.000-08:002010-01-01T21:27:38.892-08:00My new adventure!Hey ya'll! I am on a new adventure! I recently placed my hair in box braids. I lubricate my hair with carrot oil. It helps me to keep down knots. So far, so good. I am in the process of redoing the back, then I'll get to the right side, because I need to make my parts a little smaller. When I first braided my hair, I didn't like it. Now, I LOVE it!! I'm going to take my time and retighten it and eventually I will have it exactly the way that I want it to be. It looks so cute when I pixie the ends with some gel. I use Tresemme maximum hold. It smells and holds well. My shampoo and conditioner of choice is Aubrey Organics Rosa Mosqueta. Their conditioner is the absolute BEST that I have ever used. The runner up is the ORS replenishing. Of course, the ORS has a LOT of sythetic ingredients AND it has orange oil in it, which tends to act as an irritant for me.

I think I've figured out a way to manage my FRAGILE hair and cut down on breakage! YAY!!!gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-75096594422714489812009-11-27T23:07:00.000-08:002009-11-27T23:20:54.014-08:00Healthy hair CAN be cheap! It doesn't cost a lot to have a head full of kinky, healthy hair. The products that I have used have run the gamut from $16 for 4 ozs to @3.00 for 8 ozs. In the long run, I prefer to use over-the counter CHEAP products that I can get at my local Wal-Mart. Tonight, the purchase was B&B castor oil oil moisturizer. This stuff has amazing slip! I don't know why I stopped using it. I also picked up some Suave Humectant shampoo and conditioner. I'm not sure if I like it as well as my trusty VO5, but we'll see. Neither of them are doing as well a job as I would like. I spent at LEAST 30 mins in the aisle at Wal-Mart trying to figure out what might work. I saw what appeared to be another gem from Garnier Fructis. It contained palm oil among other things and looked like a good find, but I didn't venture out to try it just yet. The good thing is that if I hate it I can take it back to the store. I might try it one day.gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-73720415145734865452009-11-19T21:10:00.000-08:002009-11-19T21:15:36.605-08:00My BEAUTIFUL hair!Hey beautifuls! I am happy to say that I have had some WONDERFUL hair days lately. I have been wearing my hair completely shrunken and pinned back in a faux puff using bobby pins. I moisturize with Qhemet Biologics Amla and Olive Heavy cream. I keep coming back to that stuff. Seriously. I have spent MAJOR moolah on many other things, but this stuff WORKS! It is relatively natural. The price is $16 for an 8 oz jar, but she IS having a sale on Black Friday. I HAVE to remember to log on and get mine! I think three jars should suffice. That will last me for MONTHS! Mine and my daughter's hair stays SO moist with that stuff! Her website is www.qhemetbiologics.com. Try it, you won't be disappointed!gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-82456286334592534692009-10-19T06:13:00.000-07:002009-10-19T06:28:03.270-07:00Hey ladies! It is so nice to come on here and see all of the beautiful faces to my right! I hope you ladies have been enlightened by this blog. I have learned so much about my beautiful, fragile hair. I have added deep conditioning back into my regimen. I think it is helping me to retain moisture better. I used the S2S (www.sizta2sizta.com) Halt Breakage Control Mask on my hair (as well as my daughter's) this weekend and I really liked it. One thing that I liked was the way that the product felt while I applied it. The other thing that I liked was the way that it felt after rinsing. I think that this product will help with breakage. I have also been using her daily oil moisturizer. Like most products, there are good and bad ways for me to use this lotion. First, let me list all of the benefits:
1) it provides moisture without being greasy.
2) it does NOT contain mineral oil, silicones, propylene glycol, or anything like that.
3) it is VERY affordable, though her shipping charges are a DOOZY! In fact, most companies shipping charges are a DOOZY these days.
4) her products last, so you get even MORE bang for your buck!
5) her products do NOT cause any scalp or skin issues for me, which is HUGE!

These are the cons:
1) I cannot apply her lotion to my SHRUNKEN hair for more than two days in a row. The first time I tried that, I ended up with stiff, dry hair. I don't know why, because her moisturizer works really well for me.
2) it has to be ordered online. This isn't a REALLY big issue, because I don't mind ordering online. I just wish that I had consolidated some of my orders.

All in all, I think I'm going to REALLY enjoy using her products. They seem to work really well for my daughter as well.gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-25973576301751814912009-10-12T21:48:00.000-07:002009-10-12T21:51:12.320-07:00IS IT OR IS IT??Well, I thought the ORS conditioner was causing my acne, but I haven't used it in a few days and I'm STILL have the same pattern of breakouts. I'm not really SURE what is causing my breakouts. I just know that conditioner was AMAZING and I miss it!

I ordered some S2S products and my hair feels great, though not as soft as before. Either way, I'm still doing well!gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-2608820243688058382009-10-06T19:19:00.000-07:002009-10-06T19:33:24.351-07:00I enjoyed it while it lasted...Well, I enjoyed my stretched out hair while it lasted. I did a couple of styles, but my hair SHRINKS so easily that by day three it just wasn't worth it to tackle the bush and put it in twists just to have a semi-stretched fro style. I ALWAYS get tired of this after a few days because right now my hair is so short and shrinkage is just not very forgiving. I am still using the ORS replenishing conditioner and I actually got it in the big bottle. I LOVE the way that my hair feels after rinsing this product out. I also feel that my hair is getting softer with each use of the conditioner. I have been using my Qhemet Amla and Olive Heavy cream as a moisturizer instead of the Blue Magic. To me, Blue Magic works better when I'm stretching my hair stretched out vice wearing it shrunken. When I wear it shrunken, I prefer to use hair lotions or creams. I have S2S on order again since I am using a good conditioner. My hair might actually be softer now. I remeber giving it a not so good review in the past. We'll see. As far as my hair being fragile, it has gotten MUCH easier to deal with now that I have a great conditioner. My hair is growing for SURE and I hope to get the six inxh goal by the end of the year.

HAIR TIP- When sectioning off the hair to do nighttime twists, /I tend to use my fingers instead of a comb. I pick the strands apart if they tie themselves together. It is best to lift the strands out of the knot as opposed to pulling downward on the knot. Pulling downward will tighten the knot. It also helps to put a little oil or moisturizer on the knot before attempting to loosen it.gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-5051655407628504052009-09-28T09:12:00.000-07:002009-09-28T09:27:10.565-07:00Back to the shrunken froWell, today I went back to my shrunken fro. I had forgotten how cute I look with it. I put on some lipstick and I will probably take a couple of pics. When I wear my hair shrunken, it really doesn't look as if it is growing very much. Let me tell you, it IS!!

I LOVE the effects of the ORS replenishing conditioner. It has actually changed my my hair for the better. I never thought I'd say this, but my hair is actually softer after drying SINCE I started using the conditioner. This from a lady who had SWORN off conditioners. To THINK that my holy grail has been sitting on the shelf of Wal-Mart all of this time!

I am very happy with the state of my hair these days. It looks VERY healthy and is QUITE easy to manage. All I do when I style it is use my fingers. I did a twistout yesterday, but due to the length, I didn't really like it that much. Unless I grow 8-10 inches of hair, I probably won't be wearing twistouts.

I did YET another experiment this morning. I shampooed and conditioned and then applied the ORS Olive Oil sheen spray vice my Blue Magic. It will be interesting to see how it feels after it dries. So far. it feels pretty soft. If that WORKS for me, then I will just do that from now on so that I can get to my scalp.gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-87263860710548902412009-09-22T21:35:00.000-07:002009-09-22T21:41:58.659-07:00ORS Replenishing condish is a keeper!I tried the conditioner a second time and got the same superb results AND my hair is actually SOFTER after drying than normal. Needless to say, I'll be keeping this around. I like the detangling effect that it has on my hair as well. I plan to get some pics in my fotki of my crazy twists. They are very short and they kinda go every which way since I have so much shrinkage. They will look better as my hair grows out. I only have four inches, so I don't have a LOT to work with. Hopefully in time. Still no combs for me. Too much pain!

I used the Sulphur 8 shampoo and lathered three times because Blue Magic seems to be very hard to shampoo out for me. It is good stuff, just difficult to get out of the hair. I ended up buying some Proclaim (Sally's knock-off) wonder oil for my scalp. It was itchy and flaky.

My daughter's hair is holding up well. I kinds did a spot trim on her hair last wash day. I will try to go through it more thoroughly at a different time. Right now, I think I could use a trim as well, but it is a lot of work for me to trim mine and I don't have enough hair to let someone else take a stab at it.gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-43258448382938220092009-09-21T22:16:00.000-07:002009-09-21T22:27:18.260-07:00Hair length updateI measured my hair a few days ago and I have about 4 inches of length all around. It has taken quite a whie for my hair to gain length. I looked in my fotki album and back in May I wrote that I had 4 inches and then a month later I wrote that I had 3 1/2 inches. So, if I had 3 1/2 inches in June, that means that it has taken 2 months for me to grow a 1/2 inch of hair. All things being normal, at this rate, my hair COULD grow 6 inches in one year. However, I think I actually grow 4 inches of hair in a year. We shall see...

I DID get the ORS conditioning pac and I actually liked the results that I got. That was one use, so I really can't make an assessment until I have used it for a little while. My hair was somewhat easier to manage but still tied itself together a bit.

I am at a loss as to what to do with my hair (that will make me happy and the NAVY happy) so I feel a little frustrated. I only have 4 inches of hair, so no ponytails or even bunny tails can be made. I tried all that back in the day when I had a little more length and my hair always looked a mess. I think it would just be so much easier with actual length. I can't wear twists, either. Cornrows HURT my scalp SO bad!! I don't know what to do!!gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-77052889669038468222009-09-03T08:48:00.000-07:002009-09-03T09:04:07.614-07:00CORNROWS- FINALLY!!I decided to try to cornrow my hair again. Now, this has always been quite a feat, as I FIRST have to stretch my hair out so that it can be more manageable. In order to do this, I have to put my hair into several plaits. My product of choice for this endeavor was good ole-fashioned Blue Magic. This stuff makes both mine and my daughters hair amazingly easy to comb AND it minimizes breakage, though we will ALWAYS have some breakage. Well, I shampooed my hair, applied Blue Magic and went to town. My cornrows came out okay. Now that I have survived that styling session, I might venture out and let someone cornrow my hair since it it now stretched out VERY well. I don't know, one step at a time. Most braiders yank and pull. I have a tender, sensitive scalp. This usually leaves me with sores on my head. I think I'll just do it MYSELF, because it is less of a headache (no pun intended) and it is free. I don't like tight braids, which is what I tend to end up with.

Deep conditioning....so, there I was, standing in Wal-Mart eyeing a bottle of Olive Oil Replenishing conditioner. As I recall, this stuff was amazing, but quite frankly, the orange oil scares me!! I MIGHT give it a shot since the Cathy Howse stuff made rashes break out on my hands and I spent over $50 on a conditioning bonnet. We'll see how it goes. Orange oil is pretty high on the list of ingredients and it is a KNOWN irritant to my skin. Perhaps I'll start off with a packet and see how I do. I shuld be able to get tw uses from one packet and that should be enough to help me see whether or not I can tolerate it. Sitiing under a heat cap will surely put it to the test. This conditioner seems to contain all the right ingredients for strengthening my hair. I'll try it out on my DD as well. We could both benefit from a strengthening deep conditioner.

Her hair is growing nicely. I just did a set of cornrows and her hair looks fab. Of course, her patches are filling in slowly, but they ARE filling in.

These days I have not been too particular about products. I just find that MOST of the things that I use DON'T have special characteristics. Shampoo is shampoo. As long as a conditioner has slip, I'm pretty much good to go. I know that the ORS condish will help with softening an detangling (as I remember) especially since it contains some silicones. I always keep a bottle of Suave daily clarifying shampoo handy as it seems to work well without stripping my hair.

It's growing ya'll! I can't be certain. but I think I might have 4 1/2 to 5 inches now. I haven't measured and I would like to get into a regular cornrowing routine so as to keep my hair tangle-free and neat. I love my shrunken fro, but it just wasn't doing it for me. I needed a style. I know that the more that I practice cornrowing my OWN hair, the better I will get. We'll see how it goes.gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-34844199149227973352009-08-27T15:32:00.000-07:002009-08-27T15:43:55.352-07:00I'm so EXCITED!!Like many aspiring mixtresses, I have been working diligently on formulating products for MY hair. Unlike most product lines, mine will be OIL FREE. The focus here is creating moisturizing products that provide slip. This is the PERFECT recipe for FRAGILE hair like mine and my daughter's. I don't think the answer is PILING ON PROTEIN as much as providing slip and moisture to prevent the loss of strands. MY hair type (kinky AND fragile) is PRONE to breakage AND dryness. Right now, my daughter (who also has kinky and fragile hair) has two major patches of breakage and I TRY very hard to be gentle with her hair. My goal for HEr is fullness and evenness rather than length right now. However, I think I have the theoretical part of our haircare down to a science, now I just have to figure out the product ingredients needed to make sure that our hair is well taken care of. I am on my way....I made my first test batch of conditioner. Now I am beginning to finalize the list of ingredients for each product. Since I am in the process of moving, I'll have to wait to get settled before I can do my SERIOUS work. So, I think that October will see the beginnings of the ACTUAL product line being consistent and THEN I should actually be able to get some samples out. My goal is NOT to compromise my product as I have seen so many others do. I also want to market to the few people (like myself) who have sensistive skin or who just prefer to use minimal ingredients in their haircare. Wish me luck!!!gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-76729682158390119062009-08-19T20:06:00.001-07:002009-08-19T20:07:59.176-07:00The quest to make the PERFECT leave-in....So I have the moisture phase of my leave-in down and now I just need to add some slip. I think BHTMS will do the trick. It will be tricky figuring out how much to use. That's the fun part!gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-44675786948533233702009-08-19T19:43:00.001-07:002009-08-19T19:50:00.091-07:00IT IS GROWING!!Well, my fragile hair care essay has paid off! I have exceeded my typical bang length of below my browlie. My hair is just at the bridge of my nose when stretched, which is something that I haven't been able to achieve i the past. Yes, the progress IS SLOW but at the same time it IS STEADY. I made up my own oil-free moisturizer usig vegetable glycerin, aloe vera gel and a little bit of water. It makes a very viscous liquid, but it sprays out nicely and makes my hair feel wonderful. The only thing that I don't like is that it doesn't have any slip. I am going to research and see what ingredient I can find that will add slip and yet be silicone free. If I can get that ONE key ingredient, I will have a WONDERFUL oil-free moisturizing serum. GOOD STUFF!!gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-84731993291058492832009-08-18T11:47:00.000-07:002009-08-18T11:51:05.572-07:00Cathy Howse productsOkay, I actually like the conditioner. It stimulates my scalp and is supposed to help strengthen my hair. The creme moisturizer is actually okay. My hair is soft and nongreasy. I will probably repurchase due to the lower cost of the product and her low shipping costs. I will never purchase the Dew product again. I am going to take some pics to start my 365 day challenge to see if these products help retain length. Wish me luck!gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-41159813045744711652009-08-17T22:29:00.000-07:002009-08-17T22:32:44.834-07:00UPDATEOk, so Carol's Daughter didn't do it for me. I also ordered some Cathy Howse products and I have to say that they were a disappointment as well. I think the creme moisturizer will be a great product for my daughter's hair, which thrives off of oils. My hair does well with oils, but my skin does not do well. I made a concentrated glycerin, aloe and water mix and it seems to make my hair soft. I guess I'll save money in the long run, but it won't make up for all of the money that I've wasted. Ah well, I have to move on.gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7995351274179806051.post-91705919204267144972009-08-11T07:12:00.000-07:002009-08-11T09:58:04.296-07:00Trying something new...a review of Carol's DaughterOkay, historically I have NOT had much success with glycerin-based leave-in sprays, but I decided to give Carol's Daughter leave-ins a chance. Here's what I found: The product is light and easy to use but DOES NOT have any slippage for my hair. That's fine because I no longer use a comb or pick of any kind on my hair. After my hair dries (using Khoret Amen leave-in) it feels soft, but I'm not overly cray about the way that it looks. The benefit is that my skin is less oily than when using a traditional oil-based product. I have another product on the way. It is from Cathy Howse. I'll let you know how I like that one when I get it. Her leave-in is chocked full of silicones and propylene glycol. I'm not sure if it's going to work, but since I ordered it I have to use it. We shall see....gilroygalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14863262323375225076noreply@blogger.com0
